
CSSC SETH 1,000-Ship Program
CSSC Ship Electric Technology (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. (SETH) has officially reached its 1,000th ship project. This milestone marks the successful completion of the company’s first “1,000-Ship Program”—an important step forward in its growth story.
The journey started in spring 2021, when SETH—still a relatively new name in the industry—launched its “100-Ship Journey.” Within two years, it had surpassed 100 projects and gone on to exceed 300. In autumn 2023, the company set its sights higher with the official start of the “1,000-Ship Program.” Over the next three years, SETH grew its project base from several hundred to more than a thousand vessels, showing how quickly it has scaled up its capabilities and market reach.
S-DE Diesel-Electric Propulsion System: Core Technology Applied Across Multiple Vessel Types
SETH’s S-DE diesel-electric propulsion system, built around its own DC-Link technology, is now used on scientific research ships, wind turbine installation vessels, luxury river cruise ships, offshore oil and gas platforms, and small-to-medium commercial vessels.
To date, the system has been fitted on 146 vessels, with 75 already delivered. Total installed propulsion power stands at 459 MW, or about 3.1 MW per vessel on average.

Shen Kuo - 2,200 T research vessel
In 2018, SETH received China’s first CCS type approval for its DC-Link system—a key regulatory step that opened the door to the marine electrical market. The system’s first successful application on the research vessel Shen Kuo quickly drew wide attention from the industry.
Between 2019 and 2023, as China’s offshore wind sector entered a busy construction period, SETH moved quickly to seize the opportunity. It signed and delivered power systems for more than 20 large wind turbine installation vessels, including several flagship projects that helped establish its name in the offshore wind field.
During the same period, SETH’s DC-Link systems were also installed on a number of luxury river cruise vessels. These projects confirmed the system’s flexibility and real-world performance, while also raising SETH’s profile in the marine electric propulsion market.

Since 2024, the oil & gas offshore engineering market has shown a strong recovery after several quiet years. SETH has gained growing traction in this area, especially with its diesel-electric solution combined with containerized power supply—a configuration now used on several large platform supply vessels, with total battery capacity exceeding 25,000 kWh.
Overseas orders for SETH’s diesel-electric systems have also continued to rise, reflecting the company’s steady progress in international markets.
S-Shaft Shaft Generator Systems: Wide Vessel Coverage and Strong Market Standing
As global shipping pushes toward lower-carbon operations—driven in part by CII and EEXI regulations—SETH entered the shaft generator market in 2017. Its solutions aim to help ship owners meet new rules while also improving fuel efficiency and operational safety.

The company’s “Shaft Generator + Battery” hybrid approach has been tested across multiple projects, including systems installed on vessels operated by global shipping leader CMA CGM. Total battery capacity delivered for hybrid-powered ships now exceeds 110,000 kWh.

SETH has also built up retrofit experience on more than 30 vessels across China, Singapore, Greece, and Cyprus. The company offers full EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) services for shaft generator upgrades, focusing on cost savings, regulatory compliance, and professional installation—features that have won strong support from ship owners.

To date, SETH’s shaft generator systems have been installed on 583 vessels, with cumulative shaft power reaching 475 MW. These systems cover a wide range of ship types, including container ships, bulk carriers, chemical tankers, and Ro-Ro vessels etc. The company has built a solid reputation among ship owners and shipyards both in China and overseas.
From hybrid systems to full-electric solutions—and from cabin-type batteries to containerized power supply—SETH has steadily strengthened its electric vessel capabilities. Its renewable energy propulsion systems have been used on 271 vessels, with total battery capacity of about 600,000 kWh and 202 vessels already delivered. These systems are applied across passenger ships, cargo vessels, port tugboats, and government vessels.

In the passenger vessel market, SETH’s electric sightseeing boats are now operating on the Yangtze, Pearl, and Min rivers, as well as on plateau lakes and in coastal waters—covering 19 provinces and municipalities across China. These vessels offer passengers a cleaner, quieter, and more pleasant travel experience.

In the electric cargo vessel segment, SETH delivered some of the earliest projects in Jiangsu, Fujian, Anhui, and Zhejiang, and has gradually expanded from inland waterways to coastal and near-sea operations. Total delivered battery capacity for cargo vessels now exceeds 220,000 kWh.

SETH has also made good progress in tugboats and official vessels, with several “first-of-their-kind” domestic projects. Its systems have proven reliable and durable under demanding conditions, including high-frequency port work and coastal patrol duties.
Looking Ahead: Launch of the “3,000-Ship Program”
From the “100-Ship Journey” to the “1,000-Ship Program,” SETH has stayed focused on core technology development, advance manufacturing, and vertical integration. Its three main solution —S-DE diesel-electric propulsion, S-Shaft shaft generator systems, and S-Renewable new energy propulsion—have now been applied to 152 vessels outside China, reinforcing the company’s role as a global player in ship electrification.
With the first “1,000-Ship Program” now complete, SETH has officially launched its next phase: the “3,000-Ship Program.” Moving forward, the company aims to keep pace with industry trends and customer needs, and continues to support the global transition toward greener and more efficient shipping.
